Road Trip 2022: Ouray

I ADORE Ouray and have wanted to take my family here for a long long long time.  The last time I was in Ouray was my Junior year of college on a choir tour.  I remember we stayed with the Mayor at the time and I absolutely loved the "Swiss Alps of the Rockies."  Its a spectacular town nestled right in the middle of these spectacular mountains that have a long history of mining.  The Million Dollar Highway drops you right in the old town and all the old town feel just surrounds you right away.

We said goodbye to our cabin and our Camp Kitty Lil' Pump, and headed to do the Ouray perimeter trail.  A 6 mile journey around the whole city I was hopeful that we Longmires could do it and in the process see all the things to see including the Cascade Falls and Box Canon!

The views in every direction are stunning.

We found the Box Canon right off and headed down and into the canyon to be surrounded in the pounding water that feeds down into the hot springs.

I wish these two pictures had a sound because that water is loud pouring through the canon and we got to head right up to it. (Also it IS called the Canon and not the Canyon.....no idea why......anyways)

We loved the experience and after climbing down into the crevice made our way back onto the trail and through the mountain tunnel!

This entire trail is a spectacular experience and I fully enjoyed every second.  The girls needed a little bit of motivation, but I was so proud of them and their tenacity.

It was hot even for us Arizonians.  But there was a wonderful break in the hike when we happened upon a part of the river that we could cool off in.

We cut off a small portion of the trail by cutting through the City.  Found ourselves a public playground and took 5 minutes on our way back to the trail and the waterfalls!

The Cascade Falls were beautiful.  We spent a good 20 minutes exploring under, above, and behind these beautiful falls.

Its so fun having kids that are strong, capable, and competent.  We love exploring and finding the lesser travelled paths.

After 5 miles the girls were toast.  We found a spot in the river that they could play in and I took off on foot to finish the route and get back to our car.

We finished off the day with a visit to the Chocolate shop before heading to Salida!

We were all happy to sit for a few hours on our way to our next stop.  Our Air BNB in Salida was one of my favorite places.  It was an old walk up over a toy shop.  The place had so many wonderful vintage touches and so many adorable and eclectic old designs. It was a great stop for our next two nights!
