Road Trip 2022: Bryce Canyon

Bryce Canyon was amazing.  The general consensus from our trip was that this was one of the top places to see.  It was so gorgeous and so very unique.  This is most definitely one place that we would come back to visit.

After having a delicious breakfast at the buffet and checking out of our hotel room, we stopped at the Bryce Canyon Lodge to check it out.  The girls and I had watched a documentary about Bryce Canyon's history in the gift shop and this Lodge had SO MUCH history attached to it.  Bryce Canyon was originally settled by Mormons and as more people discovered it the lodge was built to accommodate its visitors.  The architecture of the building is really neat, and the interior while renovated is still like a step back in time.

There are many trails in Bryce, and we chose the one that allowed us to get all the way to the bottom of the canyon and back up in a doable time for kids.  Bob and Evie trucked to the bottom quickly while Lily and I enjoyed it at a picture taking pace.

Pictures just do not capture the feel of these switchbacks between the HooDoos.

As a photographer, the color contrast between the orange and yellow Hoodoos and the blue sky was so mesmerizing.

We met loads of chipmunks on the journey and the girls had just about every one of them named by the time we were back to the top.

On our way up we stopped at this little rocky outcropping.  The geology in this area is fascinating and the huge rocks literally flake apart.  The area is quite delicate.

When we took this picture above we said to ourselves "girls you should come back with your kids one day and see if this little rock tunnel is still here!  Chances are high that it won't be.

This portion of the trail was called Wall Street.  Makes sense.

After we got to the top we decided to hike along the rim trail to one of the lookout points.  Lily was such a trooper and helped Evie up one of the long climbs on the hike.

We stopped along the way for lots of yoga postures and pictures making it up the big climb to the tallest lookout.

Bryce Canyon was just gorgeous and such a good memory for us!

We made it back to our car and started our drive to Zion.  We ended up running into the Coral Sand Dunes and just had to stop.

The sand here was so soft and we had a blast rolling down the hill, walking barefoot, and playing in this unplanned stop.  We finished our drive and arrived at our cabin near Zion complete with a loft for the girls!
