A Jurassic Evening!

Hey girls,  remember when we finally sat down and watched Jurassic Park?  So much fun!  It was a big night and one that we have been working up to for a while now.  Thanks To Camp Crusteaceous on Netflix, you girls were finally ready to see the big dinosaurs in action.  What a great night and one that we will certainly never forget! RAWR!!!

Jenna

Always keep your heart open, always be ready for new relationships, always remember that if you want a taste of heaven then love people.  Jesus is the body.

This lovely woman came into my life through a mutual friend. What a blessing she has been.  Jenna has been dealt a hard hand recovering from a nasty brain injury a while ago and I am so grateful to have been able to add her to our family.

Jenna has a smile that lights up literally any space.  Even amidst all that life has dealt her her smile has not faded and the joy of Jesus inside of her is felt in her presence.  She is an avid musician and fabulous guitarist.  Evie is so excited to take ukelele lessons with her.

Jenna lived with us and with Grandma Jill for a few months while finding her next chapter in California.  When she solidified her job out in California we all were both excited and sad.   So excited to see her find her place and so sad to see her go.  We won't lie, we are really happy that we now have an extra reason to go and visit the beach.

Never miss an opportunity to pour into someone's life.  You never EVER know the blessing waiting for you.

Jenna, we love you and miss you, but know that you always have a place with us.  You have such great purpose and we know that God is going to richly bless you.

Go friend, and be bold about it!

Spring Break

So Spring Break....and March, came and went in a flurry of training, school, and Bob's crazy work.  How was Spring Break 4 weeks ago?  But I digress.....

This year Grandma Jill was here for our Spring Break and we got to take her up to the mountains to spend some time with Memaw and Papa.  I am so grateful for her because Bob was so busy with work that he couldn't sneak away to the mountains with us.  So Girls Trip it was!

We spent a lot of our time hiking which was so nice. Ellie particularly loved it because there were patches of cold snow everywhere.  This dog, she was like a kid in a candy shop.  She would play in the snow then quite literally lay down fully on her belly and drag herself through the snow.

I mean, she was in absolute heaven.  While Evie Bee was playing with her mountain friend Finley, the 4 of us went hiking and out looking for antler sheds (a dear hobby of Memaws).  Its quite literally like looking for treasure.

The next day we packed up all 6 of us and 2 dogs to head out for breakfast at Persnikkitys and a hike to Woodland Lake.

I got the coolest Mom status because I let the girls have bacon and a cupcake for breakfast.  When asked why I would do that my response is....."They eat it all!"  So annoying to pay for a breakfast that they eat 2 bites of and then leave.  So I sugared them up real good.

Our hike around Woodland Lake was lovely and eventhough Memaw, Papa, Skittles, and Lily turned around early to go shopping, Gma, Evie, and I had a blast.  The weather was perfect and the time out in nature was amazing.

On our final day in the mountains we spent the day with Brenda and Brian again.  The girls have a blast out at their place and we had so much fun together.

Evie even got to drive the 4 wheeler. Memaw and I brought our guitars and we just had a great time together!

We arrived home to have Aunt Sue and Ledarian visit!  We had some wonderful time together, but our favorite was on Saturday when, after Bob and my 20 mile run, we met them for another 3 mile hike to the top of EJ PEAK.

I am deeply grateful for these women that pour love and joy into my girls while their parents are off doing big things.  The hike was a blast and we even got hailed on!

Spring Break was a fantastic time of family and memory making.

Training Again, For Something BIG

Last October when asked if Bob and I wanted to do Rim to Rim to Rim in the Grand Canyon, I casually and confidently said, SURE (Bob was nearby)!  It might have been the alcohol, the candy (it was Halloween night), or the company, but when Bridgit asked if we wanted to complete the ultra monster, I didn't even hesitate.  That sounds like a great idea!  Then I woke up the next day and realized that it was a 45 mile ultra event.......in the GRAND CANYON.  Oh Lord.

Okay, lets step back.  Honestly, for all of my crazy athletic pursuits, I have never wanted to be an ultra runner. So much running.  It doesn't appeal to me (and I am more confident of that now!).  BUT doing the epic Rim to Rim to Rim has always been on my bucket list and after my foot injury I had almost hung up the possibility of ever being able to do it.  But, thanks to my incredible Chiropractor (Tyson Marostica, AZ Sports Clinic....shameless plug, the man is my hero), not only do I run again, but I am going to run across the Grand Canyon and put another checkmark on my life.

But ya'll, this is big, and the ultra training on trails is hard.  So much fun, but hard.  My body is capable of a great many things, but this kind of relentless punishment is rough.

95% of my running is now exclusively on trails.  I have rolled an ankle, tripped countless times, stubbed all of my toes, and questioned my sanity on more than one occasion.  Trail running is easier and harder than road running.  Its slower which is so nice.  The pressure of pace completely leaves out on the trail.  Its harder because its technical and uneven, and constantly challenging all of the muscles in your feet, knees, and hips.  Its also more challenging on the mind.  Trail demands you constantly stay connected to the trail in front of you.  The desert is not forgiving and if you zone out, you trip over all the rocks......and let me tell you, they are everywhere.....that and cactus.

But we are doing it and adjusting, and getting in shape.  The past 2 months have been intense and focused on not only doing trails, but doing elevation.  When in doubt "GO UP" has been my motto.  Grand Canyon has well over 10,000 feet of elevation gain on its R3 map, so no matter how tired my legs are, they still need to be able to go up.  All of the high elevation trails in the Hawes Trail System that I swore I would never run, are now my weekly diet.  (never say never)

The challenge of distance running out on our trails has been empowering, terrifying, and incredible.  I repeat, I don't want to be an ultra distance runner, but accomplishing this big thing once in my life feels pretty dam good.  Doing it with my better half.....even better.

I am perfectly terrified of doing this big thing, but I have put in the work without wrecking my body and I am very excited to conquer the incredible place that is The Grand Canyon!

Masks and Sass

Never did I ever thing that my girls would celebrate a day of "silly mask" wearing.  Oh the adventures of life.  BUT none the less, they created these masterpieces the other day and it was too cute not to share.

In other news, look how big these two are?  Girls.....ya Fabulous!
