Inner Space Caverns

Our final day in Texas was most certainly bittersweet.  While we were ready to go home, we ended up having to leave a day early due to some work that came up.  Oh well, can't party forever.  We spent the morning snuggling kitties and catching ducks.  Evie loved the challenge of catching Maggie's ducks and was so proud of herself every time she successfully wrangled one.  Lily was content with Reuger.  That cat.  You can literally do anything to him.

Uncle Mike took the girls in the morning to the boot shop to get them a genuine pair of Texas Cowboy boots.  They had such a great time and their choices were on point.

After lunch at Torchy's Tacos, we decided to check out the Inner Space Caverns.  What a cool experience!

The entire caverns are underneath the highway and were discovered when the engineers for the road construction drilled through the bedrock to make sure the ground was stable and lost a drill bit in the hole.  I think my favorite story is that they were unsure what happened to the drill bit so they selected the smallest guy to be lowered down 70 feet into the hole to see what happened.  He got to the bottom which opened up to one of the cavernous rooms and voila....Inner Space Caverns was discovered!

We had a blast and I smiled a lot  because poor bob was not really cave size.  This section below was actually called "Short Man's Revenge."  As you can see......I didn't even have to duck.

The final stop on the cavern tour was this gorgeous open area with small water holes and gorgeous stalagmites and tites.  Our guide even turned off all of the lights to show us what it would look like with total darkness.  So cool and so amazing that men and women discovered these tunnels with only a flashlight.  Oy

It was a great end to our trip and we headed off to the airport for the flight home.  So grateful that we took the time to make both Florida and Texas happen!
