The 8 Month Mark

Happy 8 months Lily Grace!

Our daughter has become a little person! It seems that she has exponentially changed inside of the past month. She is into everything and she isn't even crawling yet.

Army crawling and rolling is working really well for her and she is content to mosey around the apartment via those two means. I am having to be much more vigilant regarding her whereabouts because she changes locations quickly these days.

Her latest attraction has been to electrical outlets and power cords. Yeah, not what you want a baby messing with. I discovered that I needed to start baby proofing those things when I found her chewing on the power cord for the MAC book. She is also finding how fun it is to open things. Right now it is the entertainment center doors.

She hasn't quite figured out that you can't lay in front of the door and attempt to open it. She keeps banging her head and wondering why it doesn't work.

Lily loves my keys! She is just absolutely enamored with them. There is absolutely no substitution for them either. She knows! Lately, whenever she gets fussy we just give her my keys and all of the sudden the world is right. Shopping lists, water bottles and really anything that I am holding works the same way. When we go to the store she reaches for everything and wants to hold it. So as I add, it just gets piled up around her until she looks at me like "Mommy, I didn't think this through."

I think that she has also discovered that other people have things that she wants as well. And she wants whatever it is! AAHHHHH toddlerhood. Grace and Jancsi watched Lily over the weekend and Lily decided that her paci was not good enough and wanted Jancsi's. So, she just waltzed on over, took it right out of his mouth and looked at the camera with an innocent victory.

Thankfully, Jancsi didn't seem to mind, what a sweet laid back boy to deal so gracefully with busy Miss Lily.

When she is not terrorizing her friends she is talking, squealing, screaming, going "DaDaDa" (Bob is so proud) and playing peek-a-boo.........

Eating is also one of her favorite pastimes. Lily loves to eat! I am still making all of her baby food and she has not turned away one thing. Sure some choices have been less than exciting, ie spinach and avacado, but she has eaten them.

I do have to say she has discovered, thanks to Grandma Feddy, that she can "blow raspberries" with food in her mouth. The other night we were half way through our peas when I gave her a spoonful and she proceeded to spray it all over me, herself, the floor, the table and the tray. It was so funny, after the shock I was nearly on the floor laughing so hard. ROOKIE MISTAKE! Now Lily loves doing it because she discovered that Mommy laughs. Oops.

She is on a great routine right now too. She has two naps during the day which I also like to call "Mommy downtime," and she goes to bed religiously at 8pm. YEAH Mom and Dad for getting her on a routine and sticking with it! It is a good thing too because she knows when she can get away with nonsense. The other night Dave and Kaitlyn watched Lily. Bob and I were going to be out past her bedtime so we gave instructions to bathe her at 7, bottle at 7:30 and put her to bed at 8. We walked back in the door at 9:15 to discover our very awake and giggly child still playing on the floor. Dave and Kaitlyn were shocked, they had done exactly what we told them and, contrary to what we promised would happen, Lily did not go to sleep. After some conversation we discovered that Lily went down at 8, but decided to test the waters by talking, squirming, fussying and doing her famous paci against the railing (picture Pirates of the Caribbean with the prisoner banging his cup against the bars).

Dave and Kaitlyn thinking that something was amiss kept going in and checking on her. Finally they gave in and took her out of her crib! Sorry Dave and Kaitlyn, ROUND 1 goes to the baby. She tested your resolve and discovered you weren't as serious as Mommy and Daddy are. It was a clear wake up call to Bob and I just how sneaky and smart these little "bundles of joy" are. If only she wasn't so cute.

  1. We are starting to do an 8 o'clock bed time for our little man as well... so glad we will be in this together and be able to support each other when the going gets tough! : )
