The Golden Anniversary!

When I was about 14 years old I remember attending a 50th wedding anniversary for an Uncles's parents. I clearly remember having a moment going, "Man, when my parents celebrate their 50th, I will be 40!"  It was a surreal moment to be up at my parents celebrating their 50th last weekend.

This celebration has been in the works for over a year and it really felt extra special considering all that my Mom and Dad have been through this year. For their celebration all they wanted was to have a weekend of family and fun with a simple party they could invite a few friends to.

My cousin and Aunt came in from CO/WY.  It was especially fun for me because Derek was all about hitting up the Crossfit gym!

Horses and barn time were the mane of the game for most of our free time.  All of these kids were so much fun and when they weren't trading time on the ponies, they were playing hide and seek in the hay!

We played cards and took naps, the guys shot their bow and arrow and we all thoroughly enjoyed the time together.

Someone mentioned a family ice bath (it wasn't me!) so when I was in town I picked up several pounds of ice and we borrowed one of Memaw's empty troughs.

Uncle Derek had never done one and it was so much fun to watch everyone manage the cold.  There is something amazing about it.

Even Lily got in.  I was so proud of her.  Getting into an ice bath is no joke.  Its a whole other level of bravery.

The party was a Mexican fiesta and we steered into the Dia De Los Muertos.  My Uncle Rob pointed out that My Grandma and Grandpa were just a few weeks away from their 50th when my Grandpa was killed in a plane crash.  Dia De Los Muertos is a traditional day to remember and honor those who have gone before. My Mom and Dad are now the Matriarch and the Patriarch of this family.  Its a sweet moment and one that made me feel all the feels.

I am ever so grateful that my brother Mike and his family were able to make it for the party and the weekend.

Spending 50 years loving each other is an amazing accomplishment.  I so deeply recognize the choice it is to wake up everyday come good times and bad times and love one person.  It is a great gift and a beautiful testament to the power of Christ and commitment.  Richly blessed by these 2.

This bottle of wine has been sitting in the fridge SINCE THEY GOT MARRIED!  No joke. I can remember always seeing it growing up without actually connecting what it was until I became a teenager.  Why it was never opened I have no idea, but I am so glad we waited until this night!

Now Spoilers......

It was spoiled........but the moment opening the bottle and toasting them on their 50th was absolutely superb with it.

Time continues to move forward, but legacies are one of those timeless things.  So thankful to have this example of longevity and commitment.

 Happiest Anniversary Mom and Dad!
