Longmire Adventures: Tonto Natural Bridge State Park

Adventure is out there!  And we are determined to find it!

COVID has taught us a few really important things, the greatest thing that it has reminded me of is that I want to live a life filled with adventure.  This world is so big and so beautiful and so amazing.  I truly want a life seeing it and I want my girls to see it to.  We don't need the stuff, we need the memories.  The value of relationship and making memories cannot be understated.  I am determined to make it a reality.

But I'll be honest, up until recently, the thought of road tripping, taking weekend staycations, travelling and visiting new places was daunting as a family.  Travelling with little kids is just hard, don't care who you are.  Lily and Evie are just now in that perfect age of don't need a stroller, can hike for more than 30 minutes, and actually think places are cool!  Its TIME!

And my first big weekend trip was a HUGE success.

Bob has wanted to see the Meteor Crater out here in AZ since we moved here so I made a plan to make it happen.  I researched surrounding things to do, and man we made a weekend of it!

All of us hopped in our trusty Prius last Friday and made our way to our first stop, the Tonto Natural Bridge State Park.  Okay, this place was INCREDIBLE.  I mean, the online pictures do it no justice.  Everything about this natural travertine bridge/cave/waterfall/wonder was magical and such a wonderful experience.

We decided to hike the long way to the bridge and found ourselves on a beautiful lush trail complete with little pools full of crawdads of all sizes.

The girls had an absolute blast hopping from rock to rock, finding little water dwelling creatures and seeing what was around the next bend.

Its so hot out here right now and I was not so sure about adventures with hiking, but this trail was amazingly cool, covered, and so much fun.

Everywhere we looked was a picture opportunity and the views did not disappoint.

Just when we thought the trail could not be more awesome, we got to the actual bridge and quite literally had our breath taken away.

The pictures don't do it justice.  They never do, but I hope this rolodex of images gives you just a taste of how spectacular this place was.

The bridge is a natural travertine bridge.  There is a whole lot of geology and science behind it all, but the long and the short is that it was formed over a lot of years and it is gorgeous, HUGE, and blissfully cool inside.......oh and raining from the top.

When in Rome......yep we swam in the freezing cave pool.  It was great.

Everything around us was grand.  It was such a wonderful adventure and experience to give to the girls.  They both could not stop smiling and talking about how amazing this place was.  We all agreed, and found ourselves not wanting to leave.

Mom for the win on stop number 1.  Everything about Tonto Natural Bridge was amazing and we will most definitely be bringing anyone we know here.  This place is too beautiful not to share!
