Well, we just got back from Country Thunder and what an experience, here is the story:
So Bob and I headed out to the podunk City of Florence, Arizona last Thursday. Thankfully, Florence is only about 45 minutes from our house so it wasn't a long drive. The Country Thunder event is held out in a huge open field where you can see for miles. As we pulled up to the area all you could see were RV's and tents. We got our weekend passes and headed to the Starlight Preferred campground. We found Joan and Loren's RV on row GG, parked and started the weekend. We got all of our stuff in the RV and headed to the concert stage. On our way we got a glimpse of the days ahead. I guess Country Thunder is the one place where you can wear shorts no bigger than underwear, teeny-tiny bikini tops, cowboy boots and chaps and no one thinks anything of it. Of course, that was the girls, the guys were even better. How about overalls with no shirt, tatoos and cowboy boots, oh yeah don't forget about the beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Yeah, this was the cream of the redneck crop! And here we all were with our modest clothing, bottled water and sunscreen!
We headed into the concert area to find plenty of booths selling stuff you don't need, oodles of food and carnival rides. We couldn't believe it. One of the rides was called the gravitron and it made me want to throw up just watching it. Imagine a huge v structure and cables connecting to a ball that holds people. Basically for $35 you get a slingshot ride while the ball is spinning in all different directions. Yeah...no thanks!
Well the first night we saw Gary Allen and Miranda Lambert. It was awesome, but by 10:30 Baby Longmire and mom were exhausted (so was Justin).
So we headed back to the RV and cozied up in the airconditioning. The nice part was that Bob, Traci and Justin were in the same boat as me and were ready to turn in, so that is just what we did. Joan and Loren stuck it out to the last song! Those younguns!
The next morning Loren made us an awesome breakfast of blueberry pancakes and bacon. So delicious! My nausea has been horrible, but one thing that I have learned is that I have to just eat normal food. Crackers and toast don't really do it for me. Traci, Joan and I took a nice walk through all of the campsites. As you can see, some people go all out for their set up.
After our walk we sat in the RV and chatted for 2 hours. What a blast. All of the concerts started around 1pm so we had all morning to just hang out and visit. At 1 o'clock we headed out to the first concert of Love and Theft. Awesome band, but as you can see, Justin, Joan and I took advantage of the sunshine and took a Country Thunder nap.
Wonderful. If you can believe it, after I slept here I headed back to the RV and took another 2 hour nap. You see sleeping is the only time I feel good so I try to do it often! Later that night we headed out to see Kevin Costner and Keith Urban. It was pretty cool to see Kevin Costner. He was decent, but I did like him better as Robin Hood. After Kevin, Keith Urban put on quite the show.
Everyday Bob and Justin would run our chairs up to the front of the corral area so each night we got front row seats. As the crowd got bigger though, we had to start fighting people off. Boy let me tell you drunk country couples are hard to fight off. They just push and shove until they are all up in your business. By night 2 we figured to rope our chairs off which helped, but we still had to keep our defenses up.
As the weekend continued, it seemed that the smoke got thicker, the beer smelled stronger and the girls lost more clothing. The last day we had another relaxing day in the RV and then headed out to finish the weekend with Willie Nelson and Kid Rock.
As you can see the girls enjoyed margaritas and diet coke while the boys caught some redneck sun!
I absolutely loved Willie Nelson. He is almost 80 years old, but so mellow and easy to listen to. By far he was my favorite!
When Kid Rock came on Traci, Justin, Bob and I headed to the back to get away from the crazy fans pushing their way to the front. By 10 we all decided Kid Rock would sound even better from the RV in our sleeping bags. AHH Delightful!
The next morning we were up and out by 7:30. With everyone leaving we wanted to get out before all of the drunk people got up. Of course we probably could have waited until 11AM and still not had any traffic. Bob and I got home, took showers and napped for the whole day. What partiers we are!
What an experience! Country Thunder 2010!
What a fun weekend. Loved the pic of the guys getting a sun tan.
ReplyDeleteSo jealous over here! Looks like a blast! I'm glad you had fun. I'm sure you needed something to take your mind off the nausea, I bet this was a great cure! ;)
ReplyDeleteP.S. - I think you're having a girl.
